You will Palm Roll Dreadlocks AFTER backcombing them. However, you can palm roll dreadlocks at any point from here on out, even after you crochet the dreadlocks. You will NEVER want to palm roll before you backcomb the dreadlocks – it will start to knot the hair which is not conducive when using the comb to backcomb the hair.
• Palm Rolling as dreadlocks mature
We often tell our non-Afro clients to Palm Roll their dreadlocks for the first 3-6 months as the dreadlocks mature. This isn’t a requirement, but it can help keep everything nice and cylindrical and help to reduce fuzz a bit. We recommend palm rolling for maintenance after each wash. By palm rolling wet or damp dreadlocks it helps them dry a bit faster and as the hair dries it is more willing to take the shape that you form by palm rolling.
